State Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment and also Women and Child Development, Atmaram Parmar, on Friday, termed saffron flag bearers as the “true supporters” of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. While speaking at the inaugural function of the Ambedkar Bhavan of Narmada district in Rajpipla, Parmar likened the BJP government’s effort to bestow honour on Ambedkar’s family to “worshipping Lord Shiva during holy month of Shravan”. He also described the Una flogging incident as “disgraceful”.
Parmar said, “In reality, saffron flag bearers are Ambedkar’s actual supporters. The first party that gave Dr Ambedkar a ticket to the Rajya Sabha was closely working with the Jan Sangh. Recently, the BJP government in Maharashtra led by CM Devendra Fadnavis took into possession the belongings of Dr Ambedkar at Rs 50 crore from various international auctions in order to accord him the respect he deserves.” Parmar also referred to Ambedkar’s pledge taken in Sayajibaug garden in Vadodara to “change the circumstances” for the Dalits, on September 23, 1917.
Parmar said that it “immensely pains” him when government officers belonging to “our community” approach him seeking jobs for their children as drivers and peons.
