City Congress leaders will stage dharnas outside the houses of their BJP counterparts from Tuesday to protest against Rajkot Municipal Corporation’s decision to impose water cuts every alternate day.

Before the decision came into effect on Monday, the city used to get a daily supply for 20 minutes.

“All the three major local reservoirs — Aji-I,Nyari-I and Bhadar — were overflowing last season. Besides,Narmada water is available from SSNL’s Maliya Canal. Water was always there. There is a sheer lack of planning,” said city Congress working president Indrani Rajyaguru.

“Water supply minister Nitin Patel, who was in Rajkot on Friday, had assured there would be no crisis in the coming days,” said RMC Congress leader Atul Rajani, adding,“But a day after he left, water cut was announced.”

On Tuesday,Congress workers will stage dharna outside the home of Finance Minister Vaju Vala. This will be followed by similar programmes outside the homes of district BJP president Govind Patel and party leader Vijay Rupani. “Dharnas will continue until the decision is not withdrawn,” said Rajani.
