Under swine flu scare
AHMEDABAD: The worlds longest dance festival as the Gujarat Government describes Navratri as its tourism USP is currently under the shadow of the swine flu scare. This especially, when the NRIs are going to visit the state in droves with the possibility of importing the dreaded virus. Ironically, while every year the state welcomes the NRIs and foreign guests with open arms, but this time, they are rather unwelcome. Of course, the people are already in celebratory mode, but theyre taking precautions as well: no more shaking hands; they’re greeting each other with folded hands to avoid any physical contact with “suspected” persons of Indian origin.
…Masked beauties
TALK of swine flu and how can you forget the almost ubiquitous masks. This voluntary compulsion of wearing the mask is depriving the fairer sex of the joy of wearing makeup during the Navratri extravaganzas. Covered with masks, all faces will look like clones dancing away their blues. No ray of recognition in the eyes will spark anymore because one can barely distinguish one mask from the other. For those seeking to move around incognito for reasons best known to all,the mask has simply replaced handkerchief,a sure shot to hide one’s identity.
Equally responsible
IT’S a general notion that for any illegal transaction in any public trust, the managing trustee or the trust secretary are held responsible and not other trustees. But breaking the motion on Sunday during a function of Non-Government Organisations, the in-charge Charity Commissioner of Gujarat,Amrish Upadhyay stated that under the provisions of the Bombay Public Trusts Act,all trustees are equally responsible for any decision taken by the trust, irrespective of whether they were present in the impugned meeting or not and that they can all be sued for any unlawful decision taken in the meeting. Following Upadhyay’s address, noted civil rights activist and moderator of the discussion,Indukumar Jani said humorously that after Upadhyay’s revelation,he is thinking of resigning from various trusts in which he is named as a trustee!
Plastered & active!
VADODARA: RECENTLY,the MSU Students Union witnessed an incident where a girl supporter of the NSUI,(the NSUI had last week moved the HC to cancel the union polls citing irregularities) allegedly met with an accident with Vice-Chancellor Prof Ramesh Goyal’s car. The girl alleged that Prof Goyal’s car fractured her right leg,but the doctors said that neither a fracture nor injury marks were found during examination. Queer though it may sound, but the girl was seen moving around in plaster, but was found very active in all the university events. A student leader commented,How can the girl be so active and present in all events despite the fracture. Is it a drama or for real?”
Unfair for the fairer sex
A POPULAR garba organiser in the city which is charging women Rs 100 for an entry pass to the venue for the first time is facing the ire of several women organisations. Now,after MSU Senate Member Narendra Ravat staged his protest over the issue, chances are that the charges will be relaxed. But here was a lady she chose to keep her anonymity intact while registering her protest who just couldn’t stand the idea of charging women during Navratri. She was overheard saying: “This is the festival that worships womanhood and her different forms. How dare they start charging women?”
