The state government notification to bring Rajkot Agriculture Produce Market Committee under administrative rule has drawn different reactions from the BJP and the Congress.
While the move been opposed by the local BJP body led by Hardevsinh Jadeja, who has challenged it in the Gujarat High Court,it has been welcomed by the
Congress unit led by Porbandar MP Vithal Radadiya who has called for fresh elections.
On Wednesday,a day after the Gujarat High Court ordered re-merger of Rajkot and Paddhari APMCs (which was de-merged in two yards in 2006),the state government issued a notification on re-merger.
The state government also imposed administration rule giving charge to Rajkot district co-operative registrar.
Jadeja said the move to handover the charge of the committee to administration amounted to contempt of court.
He said by issuing re-merger order, the HC has asked to re-induct the same body which was in power in 2006 and allow it to complete its remaining tenure of 19 months.
A writ petition has been filed in the HC seeking a stay on administration rule ordered by the state government. The matter will come in the board meeting on Friday, said Jadeja.
On the other hand Radadiya, who is to become the Rajkot APMC chairman if the 2006 body is re-inducted,has welcomed the administration rule and called for fresh election.
When de-merger was announced in 2006,Radadiya was the chairman of the committee and Jadeja was its vice-chairman. Jadeja, however, later changed loyalties and joined the BJP and became chairman in 2008.
Currently, the Congress is in the minority in the committee with five members against BJPs 12.
