A Bhavnagar builder was arrested on Thursday after he was caught ferrying old currency notes worth Rs 20 lakh while passing by Vartej village on the outskirts of Bhavnagar city late on Wednesday night. Balusinh Parmar (27) was stopped by Vartej police as part of random vehicle checking drive at around 9 pm on Wednesday while he was on his way from Bhavnagar to Palitana.
As he could not give satisfactory answer, Vartej police seized the amount under Section 41 (1) (d) of the CrPC. Police also found him drunk and booked him for drunken driving. He was formally arrested in the wee hours of Thursday, police said.
“During interrogation, Parmar said that the cash was part of an old payment which was laying at his sister’s home in Bhavnagar. But we have informed Income Tax department about the seizure and they will inquire into the matter further,” said Jaydipsinh Gohil, who is investigating the twin cases.
