Days after he removed encroachment on a public street in Porbandar city,following a public interest litigation,Minister of Agriculture,Water Resources & Animal Husbandry Babu Bokhiria now faces allegations of encroaching on government land and public roads, measuring more than 50,000 sq m in Chhaya town of Porbandar district.
Following a fresh PIL against him in this regard,a division bench of Gujarat High Court on Thursday issued a notice to Bokhiria,apart from the state government and Porbandar collector,while posting the matter for after Diwali vacation.
Petitioner Natwar Karavadra,an RTI activist from Chhaya town of Porbandar district,alleged that Bokhiria has amassed immense wealth through illegal activities,including land-grabbing in Porbandar district and illegal mining. According to the petitioner,certain pieces of land in Chhaya town were sold by ACC Cemement Ltd to Om Enterprise,a partnership firm,of which Bokhiria is one of the partners. The petitioner alleged that under the name and guise of Om Enterprise,Bokhiria has encroached on more than 50,000 sq m land around the land that Om Enterprise bought from ACC Cement Ltd. The said land,the petitioner alleged,is either government land or public road. The petitioner has further alleged that the residents of the area face immense problems and have to travel 5 additional kms to get to places.
Petitioner’s lawyer,B M Mangukiya,said that after hearing the petition on Thursday the court of Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B Pardiwala has issued notices to State Government,Porbandar District Collector and Bokhiria and posted it for further hearing after Diwali vacation.
