NRI,two others held for bar girl’s ‘rape’

A US-based NRI and two others were arrested for allegedly raping a bar girl from Delhi at the NRI’s residence in Ahmedabad on Wednesday,police said.

A US-based NRI and two others were arrested for allegedly raping a bar girl from Delhi at the NRI’s residence in Ahmedabad on Wednesday,police said. The NRI has been identified as Upendra Bhavanishnkar Mehta (49). The two others have been identified as Tejinath Chaudhary,Mehta’s driver,and watchman Lalo. According to the Sola police,the 22-year-old victim,a native of West Bengal,was brought from Delhi to dance in Mehta’s party at Manibhadra apartments in Sola area on Tuesday.

It has been learnt that Mehta had allegedly called for a dance bar girl through a fixer for Rs 2,500. He offered liquor to the victim and reportedly mixed sedatives in it. The girl remained unconscious for several hours. The girl was sent for medical tests at the Civil Hospital and reports were awaited,police said. Liquor bottles were seized from the spot,police said,adding that a case of rape was lodged and further investigations were on.

Mehta had come to Ahmedabad two months ago and was scheduled to retrun to the US after three days.
