Nikol deaths: AMC gives out compensation cheques, probe panel formed

The compensation cheques were issued by district collector’s office on Saturday.

The AMC office-bearers handed over compensation cheques to the kin of those who lost their lives during the demolition drive in Ahmedabad’s Nikol ward on April 12. The compensation cheques were issued by district collector’s office on Saturday. Those who visited the area included city mayor Gautam Shah, deputy mayor Pramodaben Sutaria, standing committee chairman Pravin Patel, Ahmedabad City BJP president Jagdish Panchal and MLA Vallabh Kakadia, among others.

Meanwhile, the municipal corporation has appointed a four-member inquiry committee to probe the tragedy, headed by P P Vakharia, chief engineer in the Gujarat Vigilance Comm-ission. The panel is expected to submit its findings in about three weeks to the municipal commissioner, said deputy municipal commissioner I K Patel.
