The citys Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has arrested six people for allegedly abducting a trader from Naroda who was rescued from Banaskantha a few days ago.
According to police,Bharat Kirti Shah was abducted on February 27 when the suspects lured him to Banaskantha offering him gold for half the market price.
Bharat Shah went to Banaskantha,but he was held captive by the suspects. They used his mobile phone to call up at his residence number and demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh,which was later reduced to Rs 5 lakh. When police and his brother reached there with the ransom amount,they fled with the money but Bharat was rescued, joint commissioner of police (crime) A K Sharma said.
The suspects were finally apprehended by DCB teams near Pirana octroi booth,Sharma said,adding they were coming from Deesa in a jeep.
The police claimed to have recovered Rs 2 lakh and a country-made revolver from them.
