Narmada canal dry for 15 years, villagers submit memo

The villagers said that although the canal was constructed 15 years ago, it has not brought them water.

Farmers of Namisara village in Savli taluka of Vadodara submitted a memorandum to district collector of Vadodara, Avantika Aulakh, seeking intervention in acquiring water from the Narmada canal passing through their village. According to the villagers, the canal has not brought them water for 15 years. Aulakh has now summoned the engineers of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited to reply to the query in the upcoming District Fariyad Nivaran Programme on April 23.

On Monday, residents of Namisara village of Savli taluka met the district collector seeking help procuring water in their village that is connected to the Narmada canal. In their memorandum the villagers said that although the canal was constructed 15 years ago, it has not brought them water from the “famous Narmada dam” for even a single day.
