The Ahmedabad police sent rape accused Narayan Sai, son of Asaram and an accused in a rape case, back to Surat jail after three days of uncertainty about his mother’s operation. Sai submitted a certificate to the police that his mother could not undergo the scheduled operation due to medical complications found in her tests. Sai’s mother, Lakshmidevi, has reportedly been suffering from spinal cord problem and she was supposed to be operated this week. However, the doctors at the Sterling Hospital maintained that only when her medical reports were normal could she undergo the surgery. Sai had been granted temporary bail by the Gujarat High Court to attend to his ailing mother. He had claimed that his mother needed to undergo the spinal surgery this month.

Vastrapur Inspector M S Shaikh said, “Sai has submitted the medical certificate to us that the doctors cannot operate on her. After a series of tests were performed on his mother at the hospital, the doctors found several complications. Moreover, even when he arrived in Ahmedabad from Surat, there was no clarity on the operation because no test was performed on her.”
“The doctors performed the tests on her and found that she has severe cardiac problems. She is already a diabetic and now the cardiac problem has doubled the risks for any operation on her. The doctors have asked for angiography and she is likely to undergo a bypass surgery first, only when her condition is normal. There is no possibility of spine surgery under the present circumstances,” Shaikh added.
The police added that the court had specified in the bail conditions that if the operation is not conducted within four days, Sai’s bail will be cancelled. On the basis of that condition, Ahmedabad police decided to send him back. Sai was sent to Lajpore Central Jail of Surat in an escort of around 20 policemen, including the State Reserved Police personnel.
