Calls for appointing Modi as chairman of ‘consultative committee on engineering riots and organising fake encounters’. Says Varun Gandhi should be made Modi’s deputy

The Congress has taken a swipe at the 25 Lok Sabha candidates presented as “Team Advani” during the launch of the BJP’s election campaign at the Kankaria football grounds here on Friday.

Senior Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia said on Saturday that if L K Advani becomes the Prime Minister in the event of the BJP and its allies winning the polls,he must appoint Chief Minister Narendra Modi as chairman of the ‘consultative committee on engineering riots and organising fake encounters’.

Modi should also be made the chief of the ‘corporate communications committee’ and Varun Gandhi should be made his deputy,he added.

He said BJP’s Navsari candidate C R Patil should be made Minister of State for Finance with independent charge of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) owing to his experience in causing the collapse of cooperative banks. Similarly, the party’s Anand candidate,Deepak Sathi, should be made the RBI governor on merit basis as he had spent several months in jail for a multi-crore scam of the Charotar Nagarik Cooperative bank,he added.

The senior congress leader also suggested the inclusion of BJP’s Panchmahals candidate Prabhatsinh Chauhan in ‘Team Advani’ and his appointment as Minister of State for Agriculture. He said Chauhan should be given the independent charge of the National Bank for Agriculture and rural Development (NABARD) for possessing requisite experience of duping cooperative banks through agricultural loans.

Modhwadia referred to the role of Chauhan in the “ginger scam” of the Panchmahals Cooperative Bank Limited that finally resulted in the collapse of the bank in 2004.

He called for Patan candidate Bhavsinh Rathod to be appointed Minister of State for Home with independent charge for checking “dacoity and drug trafficking”,with Rahul Mahajan as his deputy.

Rathod’s son,Kishore Rathod,Modhwadia said, could be given independent charge of the government mint on the basis of his experience in circulation of counterfeit currency. Rajkot candidate Kiran Patel should be appointed Minister of State for Education as he was well versed in making money through running private education institutions,he added.

As for Somji Damor, who operated a liquor factory in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh,he could be included in Advani’s ‘committee of ethics and morality’,Modhwadia further said.
