Addressing farmers sitting on dharna at Porbander to demand raise in minimum support price for groundnut and cotton, former Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Arjun Modhwadia demanded that MSP for groundnut and cotton be hiked to Rs 1,200 and 1,500 per 20 kg immediately.

“If the BJP government does not accept farmers demand, the farmer would conduct `surgical strike’ against the party in 2017 assembly elections,” Modhwadia said.

“Taken together the cost of all inputs, farmers are suffering huge losses at the current MSP. To ensure that farmers get some profit, MSP be raised to Rs 1,200 per 20 kg for groundnut and Rs 1500 per 20 kg for cotton,” demanded Modhwadia.
