Agitated over the killing of a Lok Janshakti Party leader and his brother Wednesday, a mob pelted stones at the cavalcade of former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi Thursday morning in Dumaria block of Gaya district. Manjhi, who was on his way to meet the slain LJP leader’s family, escaped unhurt. A vehicle in the cavalcade was later torched by the mob, who had mistaken the cavalcade for Gaya administration vehicles. Manjhi returned to Gaya without meeting the aggrieved family and expressed dismay on the attack on his carcade while saying that the state government had been “fast losing control”.
The attack on Manjhi’s carcade took place at around 9 pm when Manjhi reached Dumaria to meet the family of LJP Dumaria block leader Sudesh Paswan, who was shot dead along with his brother. As there was a sizeable police presence in the former CM’s security detail, a section of crowd mistook the carcade for government vehicles and “vented ire” at Gaya Police not being able to nab culprits. A police vehicle in Manjhi’s carcade was torched but no one was hurt in the incident.
