Launching a scathing attack on the Congress over the proposed 4.5% reservation to the minorities within the 27% quota for the OBCs,Chief Minister Narendra Modi today advised all those wishing for progress to “leave behind caste and religious politics like Gujarat has done in the last 10 years”.

“At present,OBCs include backward Muslims,Christian and other minorities. But they (Congress) have again started the ‘divide and rule’ policy. We had seen clashes between communities in the name of reservation, but now everyone is progressing, and we cannot afford it again,” Modi said in his speech at the day-long Sadbhavan Mission fast in Mansa,Gandhinagar.

“It is the worst time in the country after Independence. Parliament had never seen such a bad period when the government did not respect the law which it presents. Democracy has been subverted and the administration has been paralysed,” he said.

He further said that the makers of the Constitution, including Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, never favoured religion-based reservation. “Our motto is ‘sauno sath sahu no vikas’ (development of all). (But) They (Congress) are destroying the country,” Modi said.
