A district court in Mehsana has slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on a person for lodging a false case of rape and kidnapping of his daughter against a youth.

Acquitting the youth of the charges on Wednesday, the court ordered the district registrar to inquire into the case and lodge a criminal case against the complainant.

According to case details, one Raju C Devipujak,a small-time businessman of Mehsana, had lodged an FIR with the local police two years back, accusing one Satnam Singh, who used to work in a garage,of kidnapping his minor daughter and raping her.

During the trial,it was found out that Singh and the victim were actually lovers who had eloped to Firozpur.

Later, the girl’s parents approached the police to file a complaint. But the police didn’t lodge an FIR. Subsequently, they approached the district court, which directed police to lodge the complaint.

Based on this complaint,Singh was arrested from Firozpur. He was brought to Mehsana and sent to a local jail.

As his financial condition was not good,Singh didn’t apply for bail and remained in jail for more than a year.

According to defense lawyer Suresh Chandra K Bramhbhatt, the girl’s father had told the police that her daughter was a minor (15-year-old).

However,as the court proceedings started, the girl came to Singh’s rescue and produced her birth certificate showing she was not a minor when she eloped with him.

She appealed to the court for protection from her parents,as a result of which the court sent her to Woman Protection Home and acquitted Singh.
