Entrepreneur and venture capitalist in Silicon Valley,Dr Kanwal Rekhi, blamed NREGA for “slowing down” the Indian economy and said MBAs did not help entrepreneurship. “MBA’s are bad for you if you want to become entrepreneurs,” said Rekhi to engineers at IIT-Gandhinagar on Friday while delivering a lecture on entrepreneurship. One of the most successful IIT graduates in the US,Rekhi has been associated with over 50 start-ups in the Silicon Valley and has invested in more than 30 start-ups in India in diverse sectors.

“More education is definitely better but if you are coming out from an IIM, Ahmedabad, and are getting a crore as your starting pay, then it is very difficult to give it up to become an entrepreneur. The best age to begin one’s entrepreneurial venture is between 25 to35 years because at this age there are fewer risks and lesser family responsibilities to be borne,” said Rekhi.
