A Metropolitan court Wednesday granted bail to Suresh Langado in a marital rape case lodged by his wife. Langado, convicted to life imprisonment in Naroda Patiya massacre case, has been accused of rape by his wife, who has also filed divorce against him. Langado had hit headlines last month when he allegedly assaulted a woman journalist who had gone to interview him. He was out on a month-long parole granted by the Gujarat High Court, but was arrested by Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch following the alleged assault case. Despite the bail, he will remain in jail since he violated the condition by indulging in a criminal case. The High Court had granted him interim relief on the ground that he had to find his “missing” daughter. He is among the 31 convicted for their role in the 2002 Naroda Patiya riots that claimed 97 lives.
