A 45-Year-old man stabbed a 22-year-old girl, who is the daughter of his family friend, after she refused to accept his love proposal at his residence in the Maninagar area on Tuesday.
The girl managed to escape from his hold, after which he stabbed himself out of fear of being arrested.
The Maninagar police have registered a case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt against the man and further investigations are on.
Meanwhile, both the accused and the victim have been admitted to the LG Hospital where the are reportedly out of danger.
The accused has been identified as Rakesh Shah,a resident of Saara Apartment,Jagabhai Park in Maninagar, while the victim is Zarna Patel,a resident of Rameshvar Park in the same area and a college student.
Shah works for a private pharmaceutical company and also has his own chemical business.
According to the police,Shah and Zarnas father have been friends for the last seven years and the two families visit each other regularly.
Inspector B C Barot, who is investigating the case, said: On Tuesday night,Shah telephoned Zarna and asked her to come to his home,as his daughters were missing her. When she went to Shahs place, his two daughters were also present there. He then took her to a separate room and expressed his love for her, which she promptly rejected.
After this,Barot said,he got agitated and stabbed Zarna on the throat and left hand with a kitchen knife.
Profusely bleeding,Zarna somehow escaped from there and came on the road where a bike rider found her and took her to the hospital, he added.
In the meantime,Shah realised the kind of offence he had committed and stabbed himself with the same knife in the abdomen.
Informed by a neighbour, the police arrived at the spot and took Shah to the hospital.
We will arrest him as soon as he recuperates from the injuries, Barot said.
According to the police,Shahs wife stays in Canada, while he had shifted to India three years ago.
