A 50-year-old businessman sustained bullet injuries in his abdomen after being shot at by two bike-borne men in front of his office on Monday morning. The man,Shankar Patel,is said to be in a critical condition at Sal hospital.

According to police,Patel, who hails from Mehsana,is into construction business and owns a factory in GIDC at Ankleshwar. He was entering his office near Prasang Party plot in Gota when he was shot at.

“There were two men on a bike. One of them had covered his face with helmet while the other has wrapped a handkerchief around his face. They fired two rounds and one of the bullets pierced Patel’s abdomen. The other missed aim and hit a nearby wall,” said a police officer.

According to Ahmedabad district superintendent of police Gagandip Gambhir, the motive behind the attack seemed a rivalry since there was no prima facie evidence of loot. Patel, who is still unconscious in the hospital, was a chairman of GIDC (Ankaleshwar),a post he lost in the recent election for it.
