The Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch arrested a former employee of ICICI Bank in the early hours of Sunday for allegedly firing at his ex-colleagues and snatching a mobile phone from a woman, all reportedly in an inebriated state on Saturday.

The man was identified as one Lakhpritsingh Syan (36),a resident of Vadodara.

Police said Lakhprit reportedly entered the bank’s Parimal Gardens branch with a revolver and a baton when the bank was about to close down.

“He was in an inebriated state. He reportedly told bank staffers that was a DCB officer and he could do anything with them. He fired at an employee but fortunately the bullet did not hit anyone. He was earlier working in the same branch but he was fired from his job due to his mental illness,” said a DCB officer.

Police said that after coming out of the bank,he went to a passer-by and took her cellphone saying he urgently needed to call his family.

After pretending to dial a number,he started going away with the phone. The woman’ family members followed him and took the phone back, police added.

The bank had,in the meantime, alerted police who launched a hunt for him. But Syan had already left for Vadodara, police said, adding that they took his phone and car numbers and left for Vadodara.

The police team traced him near Vadodara. The police recovered six mobile phones and a police baton from his Maruti Ascent car, which was also seized.
