A sessions court here on Thursday sentenced a man to 15 years of imprisonment for allegedly raping and assaulting a 20-year-old girl in Sardarnagar area in 2011.
According to additional public prosecutor Darshan Shah,additional city sessions judge K I Kachia,while pronouncing the judgment,observed that culprits in rape cases must be punished severely in view of rising number of such incidents.
The victim in the case was on her way for tuitions when she was dragged inside a house by the accused,Laxman alias Teno and was beaten up and raped.
The girl had 19 injury marks, Shah said.
The accused was also sentenced to seven years in prison for robbery for having made away with the victims gold chain and wrist watch.
Couple arrested for parents murder over property dispute
The Kanbha police in Ahmedabad district on Thursday arrested a man and his wife for allegedly murdering his parents. Police said a dispute over property was the reason behind the double murder.
Bodha Thakore (60) and his wife Raji (55) were found dead in a farm at Vehlal village on Tuesday morning. They were beaten to death with a blunt object. The couples 15-year-old granddaughter was injured in the incident and admitted to the civil hospital.
Following the incident,police grilled the couples son Raman Thakore and his wife Sumi.
The accused broke down during interrogation. Raman admitted to killing his father and mother with an axe while they were sleeping. His wife Sumi is also involved in the act, said a police officer.
Police said Bodha owned about four bighas of land at his native Siholi village in Gandhinagar district and that Raman and Sumi wanted to get the ownership of the land,besides other properties.
Bodha was continuously harassed by his son because of which he left the village with his wife and granddaughter. They came to Kanbha six months ago and started working as farm labourers. Recently,Ramanji fell sick and demanded some money from his father,but Bodha refused to give. During interrogation,Raman said his father never gave him anything, added the officer.
