Demanding water, fodder and camps for their cattle on an urgent basis, thousands of maldharis (pastoralists) in Rajkot took out a rally in the city on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum to the collector.

They also warned of an agitation, including abandoning their cattle in government grasslands and staging dharnas and rallies,if their demands were not met within 10 days.

Led by their leaders like Raju Junja and others,10,000-odd maldharis marched from Macchu Mata Mandir in Milpara to the collector’s office.

“We have demanded water points for cattle in city areas,a fodder distribution depot and cattle camps,” said Junja, adding cattle camps were needed for sheltering animals abandoned by a helpless owner.
