Government spin-doctors at the recently-concluded Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit would have taken visitors on a ride along the information superhighways through the official machinery.

But back home in the Information Department, they have no time to spare a cursory glance at the opening pages of the Gujarat Information Bureau website and keep the information up to date.

The site,it seems, has not been updated for over two decades. An ample proof of this is available if one cared to go through the thumbnail life-sketches of ‘prominent’ personalities.

In all, they have identified only 13 prominent personalities.

The fortunate few include Mahatma Gandhi,Kastur Baa,Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,Mahadevbhai Desai,Dr Jivraj Mehta,Indulal Yagnik,Jam Ranjitsinh,Kasturbhai Lalbhai,Morarjibhai Desai,Nanjibhai Mehta,Ravishanker Maharaj,’Rubin’ David and Ambalal Sarabhai.

According to the information given on the page,at least two of them,Morarjibhai Desai and Rubin David are still alive. Neither the year of death is mentioned under their names nor their biographic details are given.

The dossier on the legendary Reuben David tells us that David, who was born in 1912,is currently suffering from cancer.

The fact is Reuben David died in 1989. While Morarji Desai, the former Prime Minister, died six years thereafter,in 1995.

Forget about poor typesetting, when one clicks to open the picture of Sardar Patel for his life sketch, one gets the details of Kastur Baa. Ditto with Mahadevbhai Desai,Dr Jivraj Mehta and Indulal Yagnik.

There are no facts or biographic details of these persons, but all of it will tell you about the life of Kastur Baa.

They may be prominent persons, but information about their lives and times remains censored.

And Kastur Baa,who shared her life with

Gandhi,is also made to share with him the last paragraph of his life sketch on this site.

In stark contrast, the page of photo gallery has been updated right up to the Vibrant Gujarat Summit and Kankaria Carnival. Which means the site is not left abandoned and is still active.

When this was pointed out to state Information Commissioner Bhagyesh Jha,he said the matter would be looked into very soon.
