Relatives of three alleged fake encounter victims demanded the arrest of Chief Minister Narendra Modi in a dharna organised at the Income Tax Circle in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. The cases pertained to the 2003 Sadiq Jamal Mehtar encounter,2005 killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kauser Bi,and 2007 encounter of Tulsiram Prajapati.

The dharna saw for the first time kin of victims of these encounters coming together to demand justice from one platform.

Among the protesters were Sohrabuddin’s brother Rubabuddin,Sadiq’s brother Shabir, and Prajapati’s mother Narmada.

Parents of Dipesh and Abhishek, who were found murdered near Asaram Bapu’s ashram, also sat on the dharna.

“All I want is justice,” said Narmada.

Shabir complained that the CBI had not done a proper investigation in his brother’s case, and names of accused top policemen were missing in the first chargesheet.

“They have arrested and chargesheeted only small fry. Rajinder Kumar of IB is yet to be arrested,” Shabir further added.

Rubabuddin criticised the CBI for not finding any leads to trace his sister-in-law Kauser Bi.

The protest was organised by an NGO named Jan Sangharsh Manch. The protesters shouted slogans against Modi and demanded his resignation and arrest.

“After Godhra train carnage, politics of encounters was started in order to divide the Hindus and Muslims in Gujarat,” said JSM convener Amrish Patel.
