The local Congress workers led by Junagadh Mayor Lakhabhai Parmar on Friday have launched an indefinite protest against the cut in water supply in the area imposed by the civic body since fortnight.

The mayor has claimed that enough water resources are available and cut is unjustifiable. However,Junagadh Municipal Corporation (JMC) commissioner Vipra Bhal said the water cut has been imposed as precautionary measure.

“There is absolutely no need to impose any water cut,” said Parmar, adding,“Enough water is available in resources to maintain the daily supply.”

JMC draws water from three main resources including Hasanpur Dam,Willingdon Dam and Anandpar dam.

“All three dams had crossed overflowing mark in last monsoon and even today the dams have enough water,” said Parmar, adding,“We have given 15 days ultimatum to the administration.”

The city with 5-lakh population used to get over one hour water supply on daily basis. From past 15 days a cut on every alternate day has been imposed.
