The CBI — probing RTI activist Amit Jethwa’s murder — has sought permission from the Sessions Court in Ahmedabad to grill BJP MP Dinu Solanki’s nephew Shiva in the Sabarmati Central Jail.

In its application, the CBI has said that the interrogation of Shiva and five others lodged in Sabarmati Jail is required to properly investigate the case. These six persons were booked by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch for murdering Jethwa.

Besides Shiva, the police had arrested police constable Bahadursinh Wadher of Junagadh district,Sanjay Chauhan, and Pachan Shiva, one of the two motorcycle-borne assailants who shot at Jethwa on July 20,2010.

The CBI took over the case in October last year and recorded statements of Jethwa’s father and widow.

The Central agency had also questioned Dinu Solanki in February.

Jethwa’s father Bhikabhai had alleged that the BJP MP from Junagadh had hatched a conspiracy to murder his son. Bhikhabhai had alleged that Solanki had threatened Jethwa several times on phone.

According to Jethwa’s family, the BJP MP had threatened the activist after he had filed a public interest litigation in the Gujarat High Court against illegal mining in Gir forest.

The PIL was filed a few days before Jethwa was shot dead. Following the High Court order regarding a probe into the case,SP Raghavendra Vatsa had submitted a report giving a clean chit to the MP.
