The Income Tax department has formed 26 teams to be deployed at each district in the state to monitor the flow of money during Assembly elections due in November-December this year,a senior I-T official said.

Airports, railway stations, farm houses, hotels, money lenders and brokers will be under surveillance,he said, adding the Election Commission of India had experimented a similar method to check the flow of money during elections in UP and Tamil Nadu.

“We will have a team of five members in each district comprising an additional director,an income tax officer and three inspectors. They will keep a tab on unaccounted cash, big banking transactions and sources of cash. A toll-free number will be active round the clock for people to give information,” the official said.

Sources said I-T officials have already had more than three meetings with the EC officials in the state.
