The temporary blockades placed by the traffic police on Alkapuri Road are going to become a permanent feature by next week,as the Vadodara Municipal Corporation has agreed to construct the divider.

The traffic police had placed the blockades in October on an experimental basis to ease the traffic chaos at several intersections on the road.

After studying the traffic pattern for over three months, they have now written to the VMC to permanently block the roads where the barricades are put.

While the letter was forwarded to the VMC nearly 10 days ago,the work is expected to begin next week. “Dividers will be constructed soon,as we have received the permission for this,” said Navendu Parikh,a VMC official.

Traffic Department in-charge K M Chaudhari said: “After observing the traffic movement,we decided to close the two intersections at Express Hotel and Centre Point. Other intersections would remain open. We also thought of keeping the Concorde Building intersection closed. But due to complaints from commuters,we decided to keep it open.”

At present, commuters can cross the roads between GEB and BPC circles only at Concorde Building and BPC junction.
