Industries commissioner vows to take up issues of salt manufacturers

State Industries Commissioner Kamal Dayani on Thursday pledged assistance to salt manufacturers,saying he will take up issues related to salt leases with the revenue department.

State Industries Commissioner Kamal Dayani on Thursday pledged assistance to salt manufacturers,saying he will take up issues related to salt leases with the revenue department.

“We will take it up very seriously with the revenue department. We will do it in our own way,” said Dayani at an “Open house meeting on issues of salt industry” organised by the Indian Salt Manufacturers’ Association (ISMA).

Salt manufacturers in the state pay a ground rent of Rs 300/ha to the revenue department,Rs 150/ha to the district panchayat,Rs 150/ha as local funds,Rs 1088/ha as royalty and Rs 150/ha as education cess.

These were all imposed by the revenue department in 2010 and some of these are levied only in Gujarat.

In Tamil Nadu,which levies the second highest amount of taxes,salt manufacturers pay Rs 333/ha. In Rajasthan the amount is Rs 247/ha,Rs 151/ha in Andhra Pradesh,Rs 95.50/ha in West Bengal,Rs 22/ha in Maharashtra and Rs 16/ha in Orissa.
