A murder accused, who is lodged at the Surat district Central jail for over nine years and currently on a hunger strike, on Friday filed a plea before a Navsari court, seeking to donate his eyes and kidneys after his death. The undertrial a few days ago had filed a petition in the Navsari court seeking permission to end his life.
The bail plea of Vijay Agrawal (38), who is only taking liquid for the past 40 days, is pending before the Gujarat HC, which will take it up for hearing on August 5. In his plea before Principal and Session judge L S Pirzada, Agrawal said: “I am tired fighting the judicial battle, and now I have come to know that I will not come out from the jail alive. I also have no wish to remain alive… On 20th July 2016, I have filed an application with the Navsari District Sessions Court requesting to give me permission to end my life. But till today, no result has come out from the said application. Since the last 40 days, I have left food and living on liquids in the jail… I will not live for more days.” In the application, he said, “ If I die during my hunger strike, my wish is that I would like to donate my both eyes and both kidneys to New Civil Hospital, Surat.”
Agrawal is facing trail for his alleged role in the murder of his friend Sameer Patni on July 16, 2007. His laywer Vijay Naik said, “There were seven accused in the case, including Vijay Agrawal. While others have got bail, only Agrawal is in jail. The trial in the case has also not started.”
