A prisoner, who jumped parole in June this year and was arrested again on October 31 in an alleged theft case, escaped from the Godhra General hospital, where he was in police custody, in the wee hours of Thursday.
Irfan Abdul Pandva(25), resident of Vejalpur village of Kalol taluka in the Panchmahals district, was serving his term in the Godhra sub-jail after his arrest in 2014 in an alleged murder case. Pandva jumped parole on 26 June this year and was absconding.
On October 31, Godhra police arrested Pandva and two others in an alleged theft case. According to the police, Pandva and his aides were caught red handed by the residents of Haydri Society in Godhra town when they were trying to escape. Pandva sustained injuries and was admitted to Godhra general hospital under police custody from where he escaped on Thursday morning.
“Pandva escaped from the Godhra General hospital around 5.30 am. We have blocked all major roads of Godhra and of the nearby districts. We are carrying out extensive searches at his relatives’ residents,” said Pradip Arya, Police Inspector (A-Division, Godhra), who is investigating the case.
Pandva has been booked under IPC Sections 225A (omission to apprehend, or sufferance of escape) and 225B (resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension).
