The flying squads and static surveillance teams formed by Vadodara district collector to cracked down on illegal sand mining in the district seized 11 vehicles and detained 22 others loaded with sand on Tuesday.
The vigilance teams stopped 27 trucks and six tractor trailers carrying sands at Dumad Crossroads and Gola Gam cross roads near the city and tribal Chhota Udepur taluka of the district. The teams seized five trucks and six tractor trailers and detained 22 trucks for various irregularities.
Of the five trucks seized,four did not have royalty passes while the one had a fake pass. The six tractors too did not have any documents related to sand that they were carrying and were seized, district collector Vinod Rao said Tuesday.
The collector said the rest 22 trucks were found overloaded by teams and they they would be released after payment of fine. However,police complaints would be filed against those caught ferrying sand without valid royalty passes, Rao said. The collector had formed six static surveillance and seven flying squads on Monday following complaints of illegal mining of sand from Orsang river that flows crossing Chhota Udepur,Pavi Jetpur,Sankheda and Dabhoi talukas of the district. While Vadodara,Savli,Dabhoi,Pavi Jetpur,Sankheda and Chhota Udepur talukas would have a flying squads each,the surveillance teams would maintain vigil on roads of the district.
