City-based advertising agency,Ingen,is organising Hot Shorts-Season II on July 19,in a bid to promote budding filmmakers in the state. Forty short films by students, amateurs and professionals across Gujarat will be screened in this event, sources said.
Last year, the event was organised only for Vadodara-based artists. But this time, artistes from across the state have been invited. Entries have come from IIM-A,National Institute of Design (NID) and the Mudra Institute of Communication,Ahmedabad (MICA). The aim is to provide both amateurs and professionals with a platform in filmmaking.
Neeraj Jain, theCreative and Marketing head of Ingen Advertising said: This season,we aim to promote artistes from each corner of the state, from Palanpur,Rajkot,Ahmedabad,Surat,Navsari to Vadodara. Around 40 movies will be screened. The last day for submitting the short films is July 7. I will go through every short film and then it would be passed on to the jury comprising film critic Rajeev Masand.
He added: We are yet to decide names for the jury; it is still in pipeline. The interesting fact is that we are also getting entries from small towns such as Palanpur in Banaskantha district and Rajkot.
Jain added: Gujarat has a lot of talent but it requires proper guidance and platform. Therefore,we decided to organise this event for the second time.
Incidentally,Johnny Sharma,a movie screened in Hot Shorts last year, was later screened at Cannes Film Festival.
Santosh Rane,a former student of M S University (MSU) who acted in Johnny Sharma, said: This year we are going to participate in this event again. But due to the monsoon, our script has changed. But we hope that we will make it till July 7.
