Heavy rains lash state, port warning issued

Due to heavy rainfall in the afternoon, Mithakhali underpass was shut for a few hours.

Heavy showers lashed several parts of Gujarat, which recorded 19.46 mm rain in the past 24 hours, State Disaster Management Authority officials said. The rain gauges recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall in North Gujarat (39 mm), East-Central (15mm), Saurashtra (15 mm), Kutch (13mm), South Gujarat (12 mm) and Ahmedabad (till 4 pm 29.46 mm).

Meanwhile, the regional Met office here has issued a warning to ports in the coastal regions. According to the Met office, heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated across the state in the next 72 hours. In Ahmedabad, the West Zone received maximum of 41.70 mm, while the South Zone (21.84 mm). Due to heavy rainfall in the afternoon, Mithakhali underpass was shut for a few hours.

Thirty trees reportedly uprooted in the city, the majority being on the Parimal garden-Panchwati Road stretch, Prahladnagar Garden road and Bhuyangdev areas.
