Heat wave conditions to continue across Gujarat

The Metrological Department on Monday warned the “heat wave” conditions would continue in Saurashtra,Kutch and north Gujarat regions for the next 24 hours.

Ahmedabad:The Metrological Department on Monday warned the “heat wave” conditions would continue in Saurashtra,Kutch and north Gujarat regions for the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile,the temperature in parts of the state,including Ahmedabad,stayed a couple of degrees above normal. On Monday,Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 43.6° Celcius. The temperature has remained almost the same over the last few days.

The temperature trends are similar all over the state,with major cities recording temperature similar to last week. Vadodara recorded 41° Celcius. Rajkot recorded 2 degrees above normal temperature at 43.3° Celcius while Bhuj stayed slightly above normal at 40.6° Celcius and Idar recorded 41.4° Celcius. Surat and Naliya remained comparatively cooler at 33° and 33.8° Celcius,respectively.

Six get life in jail for murder

Rajkot:A local court Monday sentenced six persons to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of a bus driver in June 2009.

Additional Sessions Judge P S Brahmabhatt convicted Yagnesh Pandit,Prakash Goswami,Alpesh Bagdai,Chetan,Hitesh Bhanderi and Ketan Vaishnav for killing Narendrasinh Jhala on June 9,2009,public prosecutor Pravin Kotecha said.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the accused,he said.

The incident took place in 2009 when Jhala,who was employed as a driver with a private travels company,allegedly harassed a woman,after which the six convicts attacked him with sharp weapons and killed him,police said.
