The Gujarat High Court today granted anticipatory bail to suspended IAS officer Pradeep Sharma in connection with a case of corruption whereby he is accused of accepting SIM card from a private company and also making them to pay for the usage.
A single-judge bench of Justice J B Pardiwala granted the anticipatory bail while observing that the facts of the instance case is same with another case registered against him in which he is already granted bail by the Supreme Court.
Sharmas lawyer I H Syed said that in February-March 2010,the CID (Crime) had registered two FIRs against Sharma. In one FIR,he was accused of taking a SIM card from a company and making it to pay the bill for its usage. At the same time, they registered another FIR accusing him of granting land to the same company at concessional rates in lieu of the favours he got from that company, he said.
So,we had demanded anticipatory bail in that case on the ground that the first FIR was related to the motive and the second one was of alleged offence. Essentially, there has to be only one FIR and he has already been granted bail by the Supreme Court in the other offence. We called it malicious persecution, he added.
