The All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) plans to celebrate the bicentenary of Charles Darwin,who was born on February 12,1809. The group has come out with a plan for yearlong celebrations involving students,teachers and rational-minded people.
An exhibition on the life and works of Darwin will be held on Wednesday next to the statue of social reformer Narmad,near Gujarat University from 11 am to 4 pm,said AIDSO secretary Bhavik Raja.
He said a documentary film would also be screened on Darwin in Narmad-Meghani Library near Meethkhali Crossing at 6 pm. Thereafter,a slideshow will be held where journalist Urvish Kothari will speak.
On Saturday,the exhibition will be held in H K Arts College. The events are being organised in association with Cultural Educational Forum and Darwin Bi-Centenary Committee.
At M S University,the Darwin Centenary Committee will conduct a meeting-cum-discussion on Friday,said Raja. The same day,Professor Babubhai Desai will organise a programme in Surat.
