‘Gujarat provides power to 3,950 slum-dwellers in 5 yrs’

In the past five years,Gujarat has provided electricity to about 3,950 slum-dwellers aross the state.

In the past five years,Gujarat has provided electricity to about 3,950 slum-dwellers aross the state. This is,however,a small number compared to that of applications made by slum-dwellers during this period. From 2008-09 to 2012-13,over 3.52 lakh applications were received by the government. During the same period,3.34 lakh applications were rejected,states a written reply state Energy Minister Saurabh Patel in response to an unstarred question posed by Congress MLA from Viramgam,Tejashree Patel in the Assembly on Thursday.

Among those who received connections lived in Kheda (1721) and Anand (1486) districts in South Gujarat.

The only others to receive electricity were in Rajkot (622 in 2012-13) and Vadodara (57 in 2011-12). There are currently over 15,000 applications pending.
