Following bumper crop of groundnut this season, Gujarat government has decided to buy groundnut from farmers at minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 4,220 per quintal or Rs 844 per 20 kg. Quoting Agriculture Minister Chiman Sapariya, an official release Tuesday said that the state government had planned to buy more than 1 lakh metric tonne groundnut from farmers this year after Labh Pancham that falls on November 5.

The release said that Gujarat government will allocate Rs 100 crore from the Contingency Fund for this. And Rs 25 crore will be put under NAFED for immediate purchase of the crop on MSP, it added. The release said that in 2013-14 more than 1 lakh metric tonne groundnut was bought from farmers by NAFED.
