The Gujarat government is planning to introduce stricter prohibition law in the wake of demands raised from various quarters, especially Kshatriya-Thakore Samaj and OBC-SC-ST Ekta Manch.

Officials said the government is considering to amend the laws and propose at least one-week imprisonment to those caught consuming alcohol. This comes in wake of several anti-liquor campaigns by political parties, including Congress, and Kshatriya-Thakore Samaj and OBC-SC-ST Ekta Manch led by Alpesh Thakore.

Last month, Thakore had demanded stricter prohibition law in Gujarat on the lines of that in Bihar. In-charge DGP PP Pandey, said that “this is at preparation stage”.
