The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) signed a series of MoUs with industrial associations on Friday, in a bid to bring on board “experts” to help the city earn the Smart City tag. At an interaction with industrialists and businessmen from Vadodara, VMC signed an MoU with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and various other businesses and management associations to “co-partner” for the smart city race.
Among the many co-partners of the VMC are Young Indians (YI), Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI), Federation of Small Scale Industries (FSSI), Baroda Management Association (BMA), Baroda IT Association (BITA), Gujarat Electronics & Software Industries Association (GESIA), Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI). Each co-partner will provide technical or knowledge support to VMC for Smart City initiative.

The CII as an “industry partner” has promised to bring the national and international experts on board to understand how technology can be used in making Vadodara as a Smart City. At the interaction held at a private hotel in Vadodara on Friday, VMC officials brainstormed with various groups of industrial experts. Srikant Jainapur, vice-chairman, CII Central Gujarat Zonal Council Chief Executive, L&T Sargent and Lundy, during the interaction proposed for a “Vadodara Vision Document 2030” which will act as a manual for years to come and the Empowered Core Group will make all efforts in that direction. Nishith Dand, chairman, CII Central Gujarat Zonal Council, said: “CII shall make every effort and garner strong inputs from all stakeholders of Vadodara for this endeavour and provide full support to the VMC to make Vadodara Smart City in the real sense”.
