A fire broke out at an electronics godown near Ujala circle in Sarkhej after an alleged short circuit at 10 am on Friday. According to the fire department officials, 5,000 new Mitsubishi air conditioners were stored in the godown which were all burnt down in the accident.
“The godown had been opened for its muhurat after Diwali. As they switched on the lights, there was a short circuit which lead to the fire. The fire spread immediately and all the new stock got damaged. There were around 5,000 air conditioners,” said Mitesh Patel, fireman at Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES). It took around six hours and 15 fire engines to control the flames. “It was a massive fire. Shops from number 56 to 60 were completely destroyed. They were all part of the godown. No one was injured in the mishap,” added Mitesh.
