An 11-year-old boy died at a government hospital in Ahmedabad on Tuesday after the doctors refused to admit him, said sources. Shoeb was brought to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run V S Hospital for treatment of brain fever from Kutch district at 3 am on Tuesday.

The father’s pleas to doctors to admit his son in the emergency ward were not heeded, sources said. The boy died at 8 am. Prior to this, the doctors present kept telling the father to get the boy shown in the OPD in the morning for brain fever. “But the boy died before the OPD opened and the father took the body to Kutch without any further procedure,” said hospital superintendent Dr S T Malhan.

Dr Kuldeep Joshi, resident medical officer, said, “He was to be referred to the neurology OPD the next morning. About seven to eight doctors were on duty that night and we will ask each of them as to what transpired in the night and who exactly saw the patient.”
