Gujarat University executive council member Narhari Amin has demanded resignation of the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Adesh Pal.

In a statement issued on Monday,Amin said Pal was the first V-C of the Gujarat’s oldest university who drank liquor in the state where sale and consumption of liquor was prohibited except for those requiring it on medical grounds.

Pal had been issued liquor permit (number-21406) by Superintendent of Excise and Prohibition department of Patan,he further said. According to Amin,Pal’s permit is valid till April 30,2016.

“What kind of role model will Pal be for over three lakh students of the university if he thinks he will remain fit physically only by consuming alcohol,” Amin said, adding,“Ahmedabad is the ‘karmabhoomi’ of Mahatma Gandhi and we will not allow a person consuming liquor in the university campus.”

When asked for his reactions to Amin’s allegations,Pal said,“I have no comments to make.”

Pal took over the charge on Saturday. He was working as a Professor of English department in the HNG University at Patan before joining GU as V-C.
