GTU board clears appointment of 17 permanent faculty members

The Gujarat Technological University's board of governors late on Monday approved proposals for appointments of 17 faculty members,including teaching staff for the varsity.

The Gujarat Technological University’s (GTU) board of governors late on Monday approved proposals for appointments of 17 faculty members,including teaching staff for the varsity.

Since the university came into existence in 2009 and over 400 professional colleges,including over 200 engineering colleges,it is being run with staff and faculty on deputation from the government departments and different colleges.

The only permanent staff member the university at present is having,is Vice-Chancellor Akshai Aggarwal. Even registrar G P Vadodaria is on deputation.

Vadodaria said the proposal for appointment of permanent faculty members and other staff was placed before the board and it was approved.

The university is also in the process of preparing its statutes and rules governing the appointment and service conditions of its teaching and non-teaching employees. Former registrar of the Junagadh Agriculture University has given this assignment.

The university also recently started two post-graduate programmes without permanent faculties.

Currently,the university is operating from the premises of the L D College of Engineering here. Its own building is under construction near Gandhinagar. But it will take some time for its completion,sources said.
