Gambling den: Cops suspended for negligence

Three police officers of Ellisbridge police station were suspended on Sunday for their alleged negligence towards the gambling activities in the area.

Three police officers of Ellisbridge police station were suspended on Sunday for their alleged negligence towards the gambling activities in the area. The decision came two days after police raided a resort. Police also picked up 144 person for illegal gambling and seized cash and valuables worth Rs 1.27 crore from the spot.

The Ahmedabad Police Commissioner S K Saikia issued the suspension orders of Ellisbridge police station Senior Inspector B K Purohit,Second Inspector P L Parmar and Sub-Inspector C D Solanki.

Owned by one Dinesh Kalgi,the Sudama Resort in Paldi of Ahmedabad district has been running from last at least 10 to 15 years. There were several raids carried out on the resort,but nothing concrete was found,police said.

Police sources said the senior officers in Ahmedabad police were irked with the alleged negligent behaviour of the three policemen.

In the last raid in 2010 at a bungalow in Sola,Dinesh’s brother Mahendra was arrested along with more than 50 others for gambling the spot. Dinesh,who was declared wanted in the Sola case along with his close aide Suresh Shah,had surrendered before Ahmedabad Rural and District Court. The court granted him bail as the police failed to reach the court in time.
