Four kids in Kheda under watch for encephalitis

The health uthorities have detected what they suspect to be encephalitis in four young children living in Kheda district.

The health uthorities have detected what they suspect to be encephalitis in four young children living in Kheda district.

They have sent blood samples to the National Institute of Virology in Pune,and results are expected by Monday or Tuesday,said Dr Dinkar Raval,deputy director,epidemiology.

The state Health and Family Welfare Department has also issued detailed circulars to residents and doctors and initiated spraying of pesticides in affected villages to control the spread of the vector-borne disease. Authorities said encephalitis has seasonal appearances in districts of north and central Gujarat,with deaths having been registered in recent years at Dahod,Panchmahals,Vadodara,Kheda,Ahmedabad,Banaskantha and Sabarkantha.
