BIHAR CHIEF Minister Nitish Kumar said on Wednesday that there could only be an “alliance” in Uttar Pradesh and that a “grand alliance” in the state is possible only if the SP and BSP came together and the Congress took the initiative.

He said he was unable to make it to the SP’s Lucknow function because of various reasons — the occasion coinciding with the four-day Chhath festival being one of them.

He said no final decision has been taken yet on if any leader from his party would take part in the SP function.
