Five people,including two boys and a teenaged girl,died in rain-related incidents in the Saurashtra,after a moderate to heavy downpour lashed the region during the past 24 hours.
Raj Arjan Dabhi (7) and Sarman Solanki (6) drowned in a flooded river in Manavadara town of Porbandar district last evening,the police said,adding that their bodies were later fished out of the river.
One Jina Devipujak (50) too drowned in a river in Vanthali town of Junagadh district Saturday,police said.
Meanwhile,a 60-year-old person in Jamkhambhaliya town of Jamnagar district and an 18-year-old in Amreli district died when lightning struck them in two separate incidents,the police said,adding that identities of the deceased were yet to be confirmed.
Jamkhambhaliya town of Jamnagar district recorded over 125 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours,followed by Surendranagar,which received 100 mm rainfall,even as other cities like Porbandar and Rajkot received moderate rainfall.
With heavy rains lashing Ahmedabad on Sunday evening,waterlogged roads and traffic jams were a common sight on the city roads,giving commuters a hard time.
Rajkot,too,recorded heavy rains till Sunday evening.
It recorded 80 mm rainfall while Viraval and Amreli recorded 20 and 23 mm rainfall respectively.
The Indian Meteorological Department in Ahmedabad has predicted heavy to very heavy rains at some places in the next 36 hours,while the general forecast for the state ranges from moderate to heavy rain.
